The SoftPointer Inc-developed AudioShell is a Microsoft Windows Explorer shell extension plug-in that serves a very specific purpose: it allows you view and edit ID3 metadata tags from within Windows Explorer, the built-in file manager that Microsoft included in every Windows version since Windows 95.
Speaking of Windows versions, there is something you need to know right away. According to SoftPointer Inc., AudioShell is designed for Windows 2000 or Windows XP 32-bit systems. So if you are on Vista or Windows 7, you are out of luck.
But if you are on Windows 2000 or Windows XP, you can get this shell extension and view and edit ID3 metadata tags from within Windows Explorer. AudioShell provides support for MP3, WMA, ASF, WMV, M4A, M4B, MP4, OGG, and other formats. You can use AudioShell to edit ID3 tags file by file or in groups.
